Blue Ridge Parkway
A scenic roadway, which travels 469 miles to connect the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia with the Great Smoky National Park in North Carolina and Tennessee. With elevations ranging from 650 feet to over 6000 feet be prepared for rapidly changing weather. You should allow 2-3 days to travel from the beginning to the end with frequent stops, so you will be able to enjoy some of the wonders of the parkway.
Biltmore Estate
The largest privately owned home in America situated on 8000 acres. It was built by George Vanderbilt and was completed in 1895. Vanderbilt commissioned Richard Morris Hunt to create the 250 room mansion modeled after a French chateau. Today the Estate encompasses the house, restaurants, gift shops, inn and winery.
Mount Mitchell
The highest peak east of the Mississippi. For those who ascend this mighty peak, what looms in the horizon is a feast for the eyes. Breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, rolling ridges and fertile valleys. Forested and forever misty, 1855 acre Mount Mitchell State Park will provide you with some of the most tranquil moments you’ll ever experience.
Great Smoky National Forest
Ridge upon ridge of endless forest straddles the border between North Carolina and Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. World renown for the diversity of its plant life, the beauty of its ancient mountains, and the quality of its remnants of Southern Appalachian mountain culture, this is Americas most visited park.
Grandfather Mountain
One of the most environmentally significant mountains in the world. Crossing the famous swinging footbridge suspends you more than a mile above sea level. For over 100 years Grandfather Mountain has been a wildlife sanctuary and nature preserve, with an elevation of 5964 feet.
Chimney Rock Park
This is the perfect place to reconnect with nature and spend time with family and friends. The Park, located 20 miles south of Black Mountain, offers the best of the mountains in one place. Spectacular 75-mile views, hiking trails for all ages, a 404-foot waterfall, a variety of special events and much more.
